The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a man who fell off of a boat in the Gulf of Mexico.

The man who has not been named was on an offshore supply boat when he fell off the vessel. According to search and recovery coordinators, the captain of the vessel jumped in the water and tried to rescue the crewman with a floatation ring, but the crewman was unable to hold on. 

The incident occurred south of Lafayette shortly after midnight on Sunday.  The U.S. Coast Guard crew based out of Morgan City is searching for the crewman’s body.
