Payton on Grant indictment: It's something we take very seriously

METAIRIE - Saints head coach Sean Payton said the league and state of Georgia will deal with Charles Grant and that team officials will continue to research the events that led to his indictment on a charge of involuntary manslaughter stemming from a February incident at a Georgia nightclub.

Defensive end Charles Grant.
“Obviously, it’s something we take very seriously,” Payton said. “Certainly, our condolences go out to the family and what’s most important is that the justice system takes its process. It’s something the league will handle and certainly the state of Georgia will handle.
“In the meantime, we’ll wait. Charles was here today at practice.”
Grant will leave New Orleans tonight for Georgia, though Payton said he hopes the defensive end will return to New Orleans Friday.
“The bottom line is they’re very serious charges,” Payton said. “We’re going to support him right now and do our best to help him and help the league and the state of Georgia with their investigation. Charles has been available and made an effort to do everything just as they want.”
Grant will continue to work out with the team during the offseason training, Payton said. That means he should be available for the teams mini-camp, which starts a week from Friday.
Though Grant participated in Wednesday's workout session, he was unavailable for comment Wednesday morning.
