NEW ORLEANS -- A celebration was thrown Saturday to mark another milestone in New Orleans' recovery from Hurricane Katrina.

Last Sunday, the St. Charles streetcar line began running the full length of its span for the first time since the storm. But the party surrounding the comeback was held off until Saturday, so it could be held in conjunction with a neighborhood festival.

Mayor Ray Nagin and Ed Blakely celebrate the opening of the Carrollton section of the streetcar line.

The St. Charles line began operation in September 1835 and was the oldest continuously operating line in the world before Katrina shut it down in August 2005.

Its reopening has come in stages, with the first in December 2006.
