Opening arguments begin Wednesday in the case of a nurse accused of illegally selling prescription drugs

A jury will soon begin hearing the case against a nurse accused of illegally selling prescription drugs. Cherlyn “Cookie” Prejean faces Federal drug charges. Investigators said Prejean and three of her staff doctors illegally distributed painkillers through three clinics and two pharmacies which she owned and operated. Prejean could face 10 years in prison for the drug charges and ten years for a money laundering charge. Two of the doctors in the case have pleaded guilty and will be witnesses in the trial. Opening arguments begin Wednesday.
