BATON ROUGE, La. -- Text messaging while driving is officially off-limits in Louisiana.

Governor Bobby Jindal has signed a bill that bans texting while driving for motorists of all ages.

Jindal also agreed to measures that restrict cell phone use while driving for young and inexperienced drivers.

Drivers under 18, those with learners permits and those who have had their licenses for less than a year will be barred from using cell phones while behind the wheel. There are exceptions for emergency situations.
