Because of Hurricane Gustav shutting down the city for several days, the deadline was pushed back from Sep. 30 to Oct. 30.
The planning process took a year to complete, beginning in August 2007 and finishing in August 2008. It was a collaborative partnership between the Recovery School District and the Orleans Parish School Board.
The ambitious program would cost $2 billion, the plan says, with federal funds footing $675 million of the bill.
The plan says that the six phases of the program could be implemented over approximately 10 years, which would require four to ten major school projects a year.
If you want to review the plan, go to New Orleans Public Schools website.
