Judy Poche loves her pleasant, quiet neighborhood, but says it has been too quiet lately. She called the Action Line hoping the postal carrier would start making deliveries again.

The New Orleans Post Office customer call center can be reached by calling 589-1900.

"Well, prior to two months ago, I was receiving mail over the counter, and then two months ago, I just stopped receiving mail."

Left with old magazines to read again, she said she asked the postal ambassador what happened.

"And I called him, and he said there was some computer problem, and they were working on it. Well, weeks and weeks went by, I missed rebate checks, I missed safety recall checks for my car, I missed a lot of things, and had trouble, you know contacting my creditors."

Top officials at the New Orleans Post Office said they discovered what Judy's mail delivery problem was.

"In Mrs. Poche's case, because the city is repopulating, the post office is having to re-adjust routes according to the repopulation, and she just basically fell out of the system, and we had to put her back in," said Post Office Spokeswoman Daisy Comeaux.

"They said that the problem should be corrected, and I did receive a couple of pieces of current mail, so I was very grateful, I said thank goodness I called the news because I did at least get some current mail,” said Poche.

Comeaux said one carrier did not realize he was supposed to be delivering to her, and said they made their corrections and she is getting her mail delivered.

The Post Office set up a special call center in New Orleans, specifically to help people with mail delivery problems.

"What happens is, they will talk to a live body, who is familiar with New Orleans, and be able to ask them questions that are relevant for us to be able to investigate each individual situation, and find out what is going on, and resolve that customer's issue," said Comeaux.

The New Orleans Post Office customer call center can be reached by calling 589-1900 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

It is intended only for people with mail delivery problems.
