NEW ORLEANS -- Louisiana hurricane victims have until Thursday to apply for blue tarps to cover storm-damaged roofs.

The Army Corps of Engineers says it will continue placing the sheeting on roofs of homeowners who, by the deadline, have signed right-of-entry forms needed for corps contractors to get onto private property.

Authorities say the temporary roofs are typically good for 30 days. Roofs must have had less than 50 percent damage, and all debris removed, to qualify.
