Deputies investigate fifth fatal pedestrian accident this week

Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s deputies were on the scene of a fatal accident involving a pedestrian Friday morning -- the fifth such incident this week and fourth overall in that parish.
The incident took place around 8 a.m. at Airline Highway and Shrewsbury Drive, according to police.
Authorities say a 19-year-old male was found lying near the railroad tracks - he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Foul play is not suspected and authorities say the man appeared to be struck by a Westbound train.
On Thursday morning, a 45-year-old woman was struck by a cab at an intersection in Marrero and died.
In Tangipahoa Parish, 52-year-old William Gabriel was killed instantly after he was struck by the southbound City of New Orleans Train in Ponchatoula. The train's engineer told police that train the was traveling at 75 miles per hour when he noticed Gabriel walking in the middle of the tracks. The engineer said he sounded his horn before the train hit Gabriel.
Kenner Police arrested a 31-year-old illegal immigrant from Honduras Wednesday for felony hit and run after crashing his truck into an unoccupied parked vehicle, resulting in the death of passenger in his own vehicle.
Also on Wednesday, a woman was hit by a car around 5 a.m. at Veterans Boulevard and Ridgelake Drive in Metairie. She did not die in the accident.
In Harvey, a woman was hit and killed by a car Monday night at the intersection of Manhattan and Gretna boulevards.
