Marsh project needs volunteers

07:44 AM CST on Thursday, December 27, 2007

LAFITTE -- Jefferson Parish is looking for volunteers to assist with placing thousands of recycled Christmas trees in the marshes in January and February.

The recycled trees will be placed in pre-constructed shoreline fences in Goose Bayou, east of the town of Jean Lafitte.

Trees should be stripped of all tinsel, garland, lights, ornamentation, plastic bags and tree stands.

The parish's Christmas tree marsh restoration project is paid for in part by a $53,000 grant from the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources.

The volunteers will be needed on four consecutive Saturdays: January 12, 19 and 26, and February 9.
