This is a guest post from Brandi, one of our staff members. This is an easy recipe to make and keep on hand, it's not just frugal but convenient too.
I am trying to make the switch from buying some of my kitchen staples to making them. This week I am going to share a homemade version of Bisquick. I have doubled this recipe without a problem.
Homemade Master Baking Mix
Ingredients:
2 cups Flour
1 tsp Baking Powder
1 tsp Sugar
1/2 tsp Salt
1/2 cup Butter, you want this between cold and fully softened (you can half the butter for a lower fat version)
Here we have a few options as to mixing it all together:
Food Processor – Pulse it a lot in food processor to blend it completely, like the real thing.
Heavy Duty Mixer – I do not have a food processor so I use this method. Just mix it all together with either the whisk or paddle attachment.
By Hand – I also use this method. If you do not have a food processor or a heavy duty stand mixer, this method is fine. Just mix all ingredients together with a whisk or pastry cutter.
I use both the Mixer method and also mix by hand with a whisk after I have mixed it in the mixer. Store this mix in an air-tight container, or zip top bag, in your fridge or freezer.
Thanks, Brandi!
