NEW ORLEANS -- A thief was caught on camera stealing the tires off a parked car in Gentilly.
It only took him four minutes to get all four tires off the car and drive away.
Smiling Chuck’s Auto repair owner Chuck Hamback says these types of thefts are pretty common and most times it happens fast, before anyone even notices.
"Yeah, that's not a new scene to me," Hamack said.
Luckily, there are two inexpensive ways to keep your car and your tires safe: Wheel locks and alarm systems. Wheel locks cost anywhere from $25 to $45 dollars and you can buy them at any repair shop, part store or dealership.
“This is the least expensive way to protect your wheels,” Hamback said.
When it comes to alarm systems you can install one yourself or go to a professional to make sure the alarm is working properly. Taking these steps can stop this from happening to you.
