Timeline records how water rose -- and stayed -- on Aug. 5

Heavy rains filled parts of New Orleans on August 5. Mistakes were made that day but problems had existed for a long time.

NEW ORLEANS -- Heavy rains brought severe street flooding across New Orleans on Aug. 5. It was the second time in two weeks that a summer thunderstorm filled streets, flooding cars, homes and businesses.
