UPDATE: Equipment failure, not crop burn, cuts power to 30,000 in Terrebonne, Lafourche

"We lost the transmission feed that feeds several substations," Entergy spokesperson Deanna Lafont told the Houma Courier Tuesday morning.

UPDATE: Entergy Louisiana reports that the outage was caused by an equipment failure on the transmission line and not a farmer's crop burn.

"We apologize for any confusion caused by our initial assessment," a statement from the company said. "The damaged equipment has been repaired."

Power has been rerouted and restored to the impacted customers. Crews are now working to repair the damaged equipment.

“We lost the transmission feed that feeds several substations,” Entergy spokesperson Deanna Lafont told the Houma Courier Tuesday morning.

The widespread outages stretched from Labadieville to Bourg, impacting larger communities including Thibodaux and Houma.

Entergy’s outage map listed 7:18 a.m. at the start time for the outage in the Thibodaux area.
