State Police: Accused drunk driver hits four juveniles, teen in Terrebonne Parish wreck

Three of the pedestrians received serious injuries and had to be flown to a New Orleans hospital. The driver did not receive any injuries.

POINTE AUX CHENES, La. -- Five people are recovering after State Police say a woman hit the group with a truck as they were fishing Friday evening.

The wreck happened on Island Road south of LA 665 around 6 p.m.

Troopers said 45-year-old Jan Breaux was driving a 2003 Ford F-150 when she ran off the roadway.Her truck then hit five pedestrians that were fishing just past the shoulder of the road, state police said. Four of the five pedestrians were juveniles and the fifth was 17 years old.

State police said three of the pedestrians had moderate to serious injuries and were flown to University Medical Center in New Orleans. The other two victims were brought to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Troopers said Breaux was not injured during the wreck and was wearing her seat belt. However, police said she showed signs of impairment on the scene and was arrested. Officials said Breaux submitted a breath test which showed her to be over the limit of .08%BAC.

Breaux was booked on a felony DWI count for her third offense, three counts of first-degree negligent vehicular injury, two counts of negligent vehicular injury and careless operation.

State police said the investigation is ongoing.
