Man turns self in for shooting in Warehouse District, police say

The shooting left one man injured.

NEW ORLEANS – A man turned himself in to police on Monday afternoon for a shooting on Saturday in the Warehouse District left one man injured, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

Police say the victim was reportedly driving in the 800 block of Magazine Street when he pulled over and got out of the vehicle. The passenger in the victim's vehicle reported hearing gunshots, and that is when he also got out of the vehicle and noticed two men running away from the area.

The passenger then walked around to the driver's side of the vehicle where he found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The passenger then took the victim to the hospital, according to police.

As the investigation progressed, detectives identified Richard Thomas, 28, as a suspect and positively identified him as the gunman. Police obtained an arrest warrant for Thomas for aggravated battery by shooting and felon in possession of a firearm on Sunday.

Monday afternoon Thomas turned himself in, according to police.

Police say the investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
