Sheriff's office searching for stolen bee boxes

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is searching for bee boxes stolen from two separate locations.

On Friday, April 6, a resident in the area of Highway 22 in Tickfaw stated that five of their bee boxes, containing ten frames of bees each, were taken from their property. The boxes are used to raise honey bees and harvest honey.

The stolen boxes contained colonies of bees along with an unknown amount of honey inside.

On Monday, April 16, the sheriff’s office received another report of bee boxes stolen near on Bankston Road in Hammond. Six bee boxes and one swarm box containing five frames of bees were stolen.

According to the sheriff’s office, the honey harvested is used to supplement the residents’ income. The sheriff’s office says those who are arrested for stealing boxes will face felony theft charges.
