Truck driver taken to hospital after train crash in Ponchatoula

The driver was taken to North Oaks Medical Center. His condition was not released, but photos of the truck show doors ripped off and severe damage.

PONCHATOULA - A man driving a truck was taken to the hospital after his pickup towing a boat was struck by a train before noon Wednesday, according to Ponchatoula Police.

According to the Ponchatoula Police Facebook page, the GMC pickup towing the boat became caught on the tracks under the railroad crossing arms and was struck by the Amtrak train, which was heading north, on the driver's side.

The driver was taken to North Oaks Medical Center. His condition was not released, but photos of the truck show doors ripped off and severe damage.

The incident occurred as the truck was traveling westbound on Highway 22. The train has been moved and the highway has been opened.
