Closing arguments expected to begin in Travis Boys trial Saturday

The Defense fought hard to try and build the case that Boys is not guilty by reason of insanity.

NEW ORLEANS -- The trial of accused cop killer Travis Boys could come to a close this weekend.

Day five of the Travis Boys Trial wrapped up shortly before 8 p.m. Friday night. Jurors listened to two medical experts, Dr. Richard Richoux, a forensic psychiatrist, and Dr. Rafael Salcedo, a forensic psychologist. Both men were rebuttal witnesses for the prosecution.

Richoux and Salcedo testified that at the time of the shooting of Officer Daryle Holloway, Travis Boys was mentally stable.

Dr. Richoux stated that when he watched evidence on video shortly after the shooting occurred and prior to Boys arrest, there was "Absolutely nothing to suggest that Mr. Boys could not distinguish right from wrong."

The Defense fought hard to try and build the case that Boys is not guilty by reason of insanity. Their argument proved challenging Friday when telephone recordings revealed a conversation between Boys and his wife as well as Boys and his girlfriend.

The evidence will perhaps prove the most damaging for the defense because during the phone conversations, Boys can be heard describing legal procedure, telling his lover that she may be subpoenaed and even saying a long prayer.

Jurors will arrive back in court at 9:30 a.m on Saturday, March 24. Closing arguments are expected to begin at 10 a.m.
