I-10 westbound reopens after crash involving NOPD officer

This is a developing story.

NEW ORLEANS – Authorities say an officer suffered minor injuries after a three-vehicle crash closed all lanes of I-10 westbound Monday morning. The interstate reopened to traffic shortly after 9 a.m.

The crash happened around 5:15 a.m. between the Morrison Road and Chef Menteur Highway exits on I-10 Westbound. A spokesperson for the New Orleans Police Department said the officer was blocking traffic for a disabled vehicle when his car was struck by a red vehicle. The red vehicle then fled the scene.

An 18-wheeler traveling behind the red vehicle successfully swerved to avoid the officer’s vehicle but became “disabled” across all three lanes of I-10.

The NOPD officer was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The officer was treated and released.
