Pelicans playoff games sold out in New Orleans

Team officials announced the next two games at the Smoothie King Center, Thursday night and Saturday afternoon are sold out.

NEW ORLEANS - Playoff fever is catching on in New Orleans as the NBA Pelicans post two wins against the Trailblazers in Portland.

Team officials announced the next two games at the Smoothie King Center, Thursday night and Saturday afternoon are sold out.

"I think the electricity inside that building is going to be tremendous," Pelicans Senior Vice President of Sales Mike Stanfield said. "(Tuesday) night when we won the game, online the tickets were going crazy. Every single seat in the building."

Wednesday, the Pels team store at the Smoothie King Center was packed with fans buying up playoff gear, just stocked on the shelves.

The team is in the playoffs for the first time since the 2014-2015 season.

Fans are excited and ready to dress for success.

"I have to come get my gear because you can't go to the Pelicans game and not have on your Pelicans gear, right?" fan Avis Gay said. "We're going to be in the house tomorrow and we're going to root real loud."

"I ain't no bandwagon, I'm a true fan," Reginald Sayles said. "You see me in here getting it. I got the tickets and we're ready to roll."

"I have confidence that they're going to pull it off because they're looking so good lately," fan Wanda Moore said.

The bonus season for the Pelicans is also a bonus for downtown New Orleans restaurants and bars.

Marshall Hahn, manager of Walk-on's on Poydras Street, says a playoff game typically means a 25 percent increase in customers.

"As a fan, I was super excited," Hahn said. "It's always good to see the Pelicans doing well. As a manager of the restaurant, it's exciting for business."

Fans expect the Pels to sweep the Trailblazers and move on to the second round of the playoffs.

"Tom Benson looking over them," Sayles said. "That's the spirit. You know how things go. You got somebody watching over you in New Orleans, you know what time it is."

"I'm so excited for them," Moore said. "I am. And, A.D., let the eyebrows alone. You're so handsome."

The Pelicans are urging fans to wear red, one of the team colors for Thursday's game. Everyone who attends Thursday's game will receive a red "Do It Bigger" T-shirt to "red out" the arena.
