Smoothie King Center to host 2019 SEC Gymnastics Championshps

This will be the first time the gymnastics meet will be in Louisiana since moving to neutral sites in 2001.

NEW ORLEANS – The Smoothie King Center in New Orleans will play host to the 2019 Southeastern Conference Gymnastic Championships, LSU announced this week.

Season ticket requests are now being accepted for the championship set to be held on March 23, 2019.

According to the university, this will be the first time the gymnastics meet will be in Louisiana since moving to neutral sites in 2001. LSU hosted the first SEC Championships in Baton Rouge in 1981 and again in 1992 and 1998.

“We’ve wanted to bring the SEC Championship back to Louisiana for many years,” head coach D-D Breaux said. “New Orleans is a fabulous place for a big event like this.”

SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said that the organization is excited to bring the championship meet to New Orleans for the first time.

“New Orleans has a rich tradition of hosting championship events in all sports and the SEC is proud to have played a significant role in that legacy,” Sankey said.

LSU will host six meets inside the Pete Maravich Center in Baton Rouge during the 2019 regular season. The university also announced that new tickets will be available inside the PMAC for the upcoming season.
