Who
is the Unknown Food Critic?
While I can't divulge my double-secret identity I thought I'd fill you in on a little bit of background information to give you an idea of where I'm coming from and how I go about choosing restaurants. I was born and raised in New Orleans, living my life throughout the city. From Gentilly, to Metairie, to Lakeview, to Uptown, I've been around. I went to local private and public schools and then headed off to LSU for a couple of years and then did a brief stint in Texas, before returning to the intoxicating pull of the Crescent City. The burning question you're probably asking yourself is, "How did THIS guy become a food critic?" Well as you can probably tell from my reviews, there wasn't much in the way of formal training, but rather my love of food comes from years and pounds of experience. Some of my earliest memories are trips to local restaurants. Whether it was anxiously awaiting another frosted mug of root beer at Liuzza's, or weekly trips to the old Ruby Red's for the best burgers around and peanuts tossed on the floor, food was a big part of my formative years. So what I offer to y'all every week is a true New Orleanians' take on food. It's definitely not the most highbrow analysis, but more like one food lover sharing tales with another. As far as how I choose my restaurants, well that's probably my favorite part. I get suggestions from friends and family, emails in the forums from fellow culinary travelers, or I'll just drive around neighborhoods looking for a spot that seems tasty. So I hope this gives you a feel for what I'm all about: bringing y'all some tips on some of the best food our great city has to offer. Eat up, The Unknown Food Critic
