Two men severely beaten after mooning store owner

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Two men face assault charges after police say they took the law into their own hands.

This weekend, three men who'd been drinking at a Bellingham tavern decided to visit a nearby comic book shop. When the men entered the store, the owner asked them to leave. After exchanging words, the three men left store.

But a few minutes later they returned. The men dropped their trousers, "mooned" the store owner and pressed their backsides against the storefront glass. According to police, that caused the window to break.

The three men took off running. Two friends of the store owner who were inside at the time gave chase with a baseball bat. Eventually, the friends caught up with two of the men and began beating them. Police say the men who were hit sustained serious injuries. One suffered a broken orbital. The other suffered a skull fracture and, at last check, was in critical condition at Saint Joe's hospital.

The pair who attacked the men faces charges of first degree assault.
