SLIDELL, St. -- Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Texas man Thursday, on dog fighting charges.
According to the sheriff's office, St. Tammany Parish Animal Control received an anonymous complaint of possible animal cruelty at at home on Powell Road in Slidell.
At the residence, deputies found 15 pit bull dogs, all of which appeared to be malnourished and had wounds consistent with dogs that had been used for fighting.
The dogs were taken by Animal Control, and 42-year-old Ramel Varrick Johnson was charged with 15 counts of dog fighting, training and possession of dogs for fighting.
While Johnson gave the Texas address as his residence, police believe he has actually been living at the Powell Road address where the dogs were found.
Johnson was arrested at the residence without incident and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail. His bond has not yet been set.
