BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana's social services secretary is leaving her job with Gov. Bobby Jindal's administration.

Ruth Johnson announced Thursday that she was resigning as chief of the Department of Children and Family Services.

Johnson told her staff that she was moving to South Carolina, where her son will be attending college and playing basketball for his university.

Jindal appointed Suzy Sonnier to fill the job, starting next week. Sonnier currently works for the state labor department, but had worked for DCFS as deputy secretary from 2008 to 2010.

The secretary of the Department of Children and Family Services oversees the federal food stamp and welfare programs for Louisiana, along with the state's foster parenting program, child support enforcement and investigations into child abuse and neglect.
