NEW ORLEANS -- Police found a 2-year-old child safe and unharmed inside of a stolen car in Hollygrove minutes after the vehicle was taken while the boy's grandfather was inside of a store.
The incident happened at about 7:20 p.m., according to the New Orleans Police Department.
NOPD spokesman Officer Garry Flot said a 52-year-old man left his 2-year-old grandson inside of his car while he went inside of a store. He left the motor running.
When he was in the store, Flot said, the man heard the car drive off.
Several minutes later police received a call of a child inside of the abandoned vehicle at Palm and Hamilton streets. The child was not injured.
Police are working to determine a suspect. The owner of the car is being questioned, but no charges have been filed yet.
"The Juvenile Division will conduct a follow up investigation and will determine if the man will be booked at a later date," Flot said.
