JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal say they're friends and have a mentor-protege relationship.

Jindal traveled to Jackson to give the keynote speech Wednesday at a fundraiser for the Mississippi Republican Party. At a press conference before the event, Bryant told reporters that Jindal was the first one to call him when he was elected governor. He says he turns to Jindal as a mentor and consults him on legislation.

Jindal complimented Bryant on his accomplishments and support of the private sector. He says Bryant is responsible for bringing thousands of new jobs to the state.

Both Bryant and Jindal have taken strong stances against Medicaid expansion. Jindal says they have both asked President Obama for meetings on the issue and have received no response.
