Philip Seymour Hoffman, acclaimed actor and director, has passed away, CBS News confirms. He was 46 years old, and leaves behind a partner and two young children. While the cause of death has not been made official, a drug overdose is believed to be responsible, reports the New York Post. The actor struggled with substance abuse in the past, but had been clean for 23 years until he fell off the wagon in 2012. In May of 2013, he completed a 10-day substance abuse treatment program. Hoffman won an Academy Award in 2006 for his leading role the film “Capote.” He has been nominated a total of three times. His most recent role was in “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” last year. He has also been nominated for a Tony Award three times for his stage work.
