BAKERSFIELD, Calif. --Tara the hero cat is quite the athlete. Chasing away dogs, throwing baseball pitches... It's all in a day's work for her.

She will "throw" out the ceremonial first pitch at Tuesday's home game of the Bakersfield Blaze, a minor league baseball team in California.

Tara took the internet by storm this week when surveillance video of her chasing away a neighbor's aggressive dog went viral. Four-year-old Jeremy Triantafilo was riding his bike in his family's driveway in Bakersfield when the dog ran up unexpectedly and mauled his leg.

While most other cats were stretching or sleeping, Tara sprang into action and chased off the attacker.

“I see my cat flying out of nowhere, onto this dog, and just remember trying to get my son and get the dog away and back in its yard,” mom Erica Triantafilo recalled Thursday on the TODAY show.

"I don't think that dog knew what hit him," laughed dad Roger Triantafilo.

Jeremy received 10 stitches in his calf after the dog bite. The dog, meanwhile, has been quarantined and will reportedly be euthanized within 10 days.

As for Tara, she's moving up to the big leagues. It's no question she'll get a hero's welcome, when she and her family make their appearance at the Bakersfield Blaze game.

One question remains though - how will she throw the ball?
