KENNER, La. -- Kenner police have arrested an 84-year-old man for a fatal hit and run Saturday night.
According to the Kenner Police Department, the man called police an hour after the crash to admit his involvement.
The incident began at about 9 p.m. Saturday in the 3800 block of Williams Boulevard.
Sgt. Brian McGregor, a spokesman for the Kenner Police Department, said 84-year-old Richard Gallois hit 60-year-old Jacoba Velasquez Gomez while driving northbound on Williams Boulevard.
McGregor said the intersection didn't have a crosswalk or "any traffic control device."
Gallois briefly stopped his vehicle before driving off to 39th Street, taking a u-turn and then passing the crime scene again and fleeing the area, McGregor said.
Gomez was pronounced dead on the scene.
At about 10 p.m., Gallois and his attorney called Kenner police to report his involvement in the crash.
Gallois faces a charge of felony hit and run involving a fatality. He has been released on a $10,000 bond.
