KENNER, La. -- An Assumption Parish man is accused of killing 49 seagulls in an Elmwood parking lot earlier this month, according to Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries agents.

Jackoby D. Bertot, 30, allegedly sped through a flock of sea gulls that were resting in the parking lot on Sept. 2.

According to officials, agents identified the Labadieville resident through a series of interviews and surveillance videos.

Bertot faces a $15,000 fine and six months in prison. He may face fines for each bird killed in the incident.

The fines are from a violation of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
