NEW ORLEANS -- An accused drug dealer walked into court Wednesday as a defendant free on bond, but he left in handcuffs after trying to escape.

Elijah Anderson made a run for it after Judge Frank Marullo said he was going to increase Anderson's $40,000 bond.

The 27-year-old made it as far as the courthouse basement before deputies and police cornered him in a storage room.

Anderson had been awaiting trial on a charge of distribution of marijuana.

No word yet from the sheriff's office on whether he'll face an additional charge of attempted escape.
