NEW ORLEANS -- The Ochsner Ironman 70.3 New Orleans race began Sunday morning with a moment of silence for the bicyclist who was killed training in the days leading up to the race on Chef Highway. Another cyclist was left in critical condition.
Athletes made their way from the South Shore Harbor to City Park.
The entire course started with a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike ride and a 13.1 mile run all the way to City Park.
The event moved the finish line to Popp Fountain this year to accommodate the French Quarter Festival. They were originally scheduled to end at Armstrong Park.
