BATON ROUGE, La. -- State Rep. Austin Badon angrily yanked legislation Thursday that would lessen the penalties for some simple marijuana possession arrests.
“To be broadsided like I was a few moments ago ticks me off. Everybody has my phone number,” Badon, D-New Orleans, told members of the House Committee on the Administration of Criminal Justice.
Badon’s anger was directed at the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Association, which vehemently opposed House Bill 14. Badon apparently thought the influential law enforcement organization was simply lukewarm on the issue.
