BURBANK, Calif. -- Warner Brothers has picked its new Batman: Academy Award winner Ben Affleck.
Affleck, who starred as Daredevil in the 2003 film of the same name, will star opposite Henry Cavill as Bruce Wayne in the untitled project. Zack Snyder, the director of this summer's hit Superman flick "Man of Steel," will again serve as director.
Affleck takes the mask from Christian Bale, who retired from the role after wrapping up Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy last year.
“We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular Super Heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some," said studio executive Greg Silverman. "His outstanding career is a testament to his talent and we know he and Zack will bring new dimension to the duality of this character.”
The news improves on an already impressive year for Affleck, whose film "Argo" won the Best Picture Academy Award in February.
The untitled project is scheduled for release in summer 2015.
