Raceland, LA.- A man riding a bicycle was killed Friday evening in Lafourche Parish after being hit by a car, according to State Police.
Police say Sergio Sumano-Ortega, 17, was riding a bicycle traveling south on LA 308 just north of Raceland Junior High School, in a section of the roadway that does not have streetlights. According to police, a 2008 Ford F-150, driven by Andre Leblanc, hit the bicycle from behind, launching Ortega off the bicycle. Police say the bicycle did not have any kind of illumination devices. He was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office.
Leblanc was cleared of alcohol involvement, according to police. A toxicology report is still pending for Ortega.
