BATON ROUGE, La. -- Flicking a cigarette or cigar butt out the window or throwing it on the ground could soon cost you a heavy fine -- or even your driver's license.

The Senate- and House-backed bill is now headed to Gov. Bobby Jindal's desk for his signature.

The bill, sponsored by Marrero state Rep. Pat Connick, R-Harvey, carries a $300 fine and community service for a first offense.

You could lose your license for up to a year on your third offense.

If Jindal signs the bill, it will become law.
