BATON ROUGE, La. -- Former Gov. Kathleen Blanco has joined the leadership ranks of the Louisiana Democratic Party.
Blanco was named to the party's executive committee by Party Chairman Buddy Leach. As part of the executive committee, Blanco will help make decisions on the day-to-day operations of the party and will work on political strategy with the chairman.
Governor from 2004 to 2008, Blanco chose not to run for a second term after receiving criticism for her handling of the state's response to Hurricane Katrina. Before she became governor, Blanco was lieutenant governor for two terms, a member of the Public Service Commission and a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives.
