METAIRIE, La. - A recovered body from Lake Pontchartrain is the missing truck driver who plunged into the lake Wednesday.
According to Carlton Dufrechou, the general manager of the Causeway, the man was identified as Christopher Sergeant, 39, of New Orleans.
Sergeant's body was found by the Jefferson Parish LASER team near where his truck went of the bridge and into the water, according to Dufrechou. His body was taken to the Bonnabel Boat Lauch and removed from the lake.
While the accident is still under investigation, Dufrechou said the truck's left front wheel hit the curb, causing the truck to ride up on the barrier of the east rail, travelling nearly 200 feet. The last 15 feet the truck did produce fire. Witnesses reported seeing an explosion and fire the day of the incident.
The truck crashed into the lake upside down, nose first, said Dufrechou. Sergeant worked for O&G in Slidell.
