NEW ORLEANS -- A Bogalusa paper mill was charged with two criminal misdemeanors for a causing a huge fish kill on the Pearl River in August 2011.
Temple-Inland was charged with one count of negligent Clean Water Act violation and one count of National Wildlife Refuge System violation.
The Austin-based company that runs a paper mill in Bogalusa admitted their pipeline in Washington Parish discharged a toxic substance called “black liquor” into the river. A massive fish kill followed littering the Pearl River.
An initial hearing and arraignment is scheduled for Jan. 31, 2013 at 2 p.m. before Magistrate Judge Daniel Knowles.
