June 29: 700 Bourbon Street
NEW ORLEANS - One of the victims of the Bourbon Street weekend shooting has died. Nine others were injured when two gunmen sprayed the crowd with bullets around 2:45 a.m.
Brittany Thomas, 21, of Hammond passed away from her injuries, according to the coroner's office. She is the only victim of the shooting that has passed away.
Thomas had been in critical condition since the shooting.
Thomas' sister said Brittany was amazing.
"She was a dancer, cheerleader, she was in college for nursing, she was supposed to graduate in August," she said.
Three other victims remain hospitalized. The others have been released.
Mayor Mitch Landrieu issued the following statement:
“Our deepest thoughts and sympathies are with the family of Brittany Thomas. This type of tragedy strikes at the heart of who we are as a people and as a city. Now more than ever we need the community to come forward with information to bring the perpetrators to justice.”
