JEFFERSON, La. - As the fallout continues from the Tim Whitmer scandal in Jefferson Parish, Jefferson Parish President Aaron Broussard is coming under more fire, this time from the Metropolitan Crime Commission.
According to published reports, the commission is raising questions about Broussard's vacation lodge in Novia Scotia. A property the group says the parish president rents to parish contractors.
The MCC made the accusations in a letter to the state ethics board based on confidential information the group received.
Commission President Rafael Goyenche said in a letter to the state ethics board that the commission received confidential information that Broussard had rented the property to a number of people holding public contracts with the parish government.
Although records show Broussard and his wife as the sole owners of Kempt Wilderness Lodge Services, the owner of a Metairie insurance claims adjusting firm that has done business with the parish says he has a one percent share in the lodge and has spent four or five days there with Broussard.
This comes amid the firestorm surrounding former Jefferson Parish CAO Tim Whitmer and his alleged business dealings with parish vendors. Whitmer officially stepped down Monday, as state, local and federal investigations continue.
