NEW ORLEANS -- Family and friends of a slain 22-year-old gathered in New Orleans East to pay their respects Monday night.

“We're screaming stop the violence, we're screaming start the peace,” said one speaker. “We're screaming stop the violence, we're screaming start the peace."

Dozens lit candles on Curtis Drive to remember Justin Mitchell, who was shot and killed earlier this month.

Police are still trying to solve the murder and track down the gunman who shot the 22-year-old in the back in the 4700 block of Stemway Drive.

His mother and other relatives say they want the person who ended Mitchell's life to come forward or be tracked down by police.

“Now that he's gone, we just have to stick together as a family and try and hope that we can get some justice done,” said Justin’s mother, Theresa Mitchell.

Mitchell leaves behind three young children.
