LAKE PONTCHARTRAIN CAUSEWAY - The southbound Causeway has reopened again after being closed twice following a three-car accident with one car that apparently had gone into the water.
The bridge reopened around 5:45 p.m.; it was closed a second time as crews worked to retrieve a vehicle that went into Lake Pontchartrain. The bridge had been reopened around 4 p.m., but was closed again at 5 p.m.
The driver was rescued with the help of the Causeway Police rescue vehicle. His vehicle has not been recovered.
Traffic was initially halted in both directions, but the northbound traffic reopened after a short time. Southbound traffic was closed as of 3:30 p.m. while emergency crews tended to the scene.
