NEW YORK -- Outgoing host David Letterman welcomed incoming host Stephen Colbert to a taping of CBS' The Late Show to be broadcast Tuesday evening.

Colbert is the first guest on Tuesday night's episode. Letterman introduces his successor as the host for eight years of the Emmy and Peabody award-winning Colbert Report. He adds, "And next year, he will be taking over as host of this program, The Late Show."

Colbert, looking different from his regular Comedy Central show persona in tortoise-shell vs. rimless eyeglasses, has a wide smile as he joins Letterman on stage.

"I'm going to do whatever you have done," Colbert tells Letterman about his upcoming gig. "Obviously, I'm thrilled."

Letterman says, "They could have just as easily hired another boob like me, but they didn't."

Colbert responds, "Every boob is like a snowflake, Dave. We're all unique in our own way."

Tune in at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night on WWL-TV to see Colbert on The Late Show!
