BOGALUSA, La. -- A Delaware company was ordered to pay a $3.3 million fine and restitution Wednesday for a chemical spill on the Pearl River.
Temple Inland, Inc. was found to have negligently caused the discharge of a pollutant from its Bogalusa facility in 2011.
The spill led to a major fish kill on the river that is still being rehabilitated today.
The penalty money goes toward several organizations and agencies including the state Department of Environmental Quality, Louisiana State Police and the Southern Environmental Enforcement Network.
