VIOLET, La. – A man who spent 17 years in prison for the forcible rape of a woman has been booked on aggravated rape charges after he is alleged to have assaulted a young boy left in his care.
Marvin Santiago, 53, was arrested on Feb. 19 after the child’s mother came to the sheriff’s office on Mardi Gras night to report that her son had been molested by Santiago.
The child and his mother live in Baton Rouge but were visiting relatives in 2012 when the relatives were sitting for the child and allowed Santiago to watch him, without the mother’s knowledge.
Santiago is being held in St. Bernard Parish Prison on bond of $200,000 and also has a hold on him for parole violation and can’t be bonded out, the sheriff said. The sheriff’s office said Santiago denied the charges.
