NEW ORLEANS -- The City Council Transportation Committee held a hearing to discuss Uber, the car  service run through a smartphone app that is causing a bit of controversy in New Orleans. The sometimes-heated discussion caused the issue to be tabled after about four hours.

The service connects people seeking rides with people with vehicles. The company is looking to begin the service in New Orleans.

Uber is looking to contact with limousine companies in the city to book customers through Uber's smartphone app.

Taxi drivers are just some of the people who are not happy about the prospect of increased competition, believing that they could lose business. Representatives from the limo industry were unsure how Uber would function in New Orleans.

The City Council tried to block it in 2013, but many people are welcoming the competition and convenience.

A great deal of questions remain on how the service would work in New Orleans.
