COVINGTON – School bells chimed Monday morning at St. Paul’s in Covington while students walked a campus that seemed as pristine as when they left it Friday.

But if you look closely, faint scars are still visible in some places after police said vandals covered the front half of the school, including religious statues and the school sanctuary, with extensive and offensive graffiti Friday night.

Brother Ray Bulliard, president and principal at St. Paul’s said, “Incredible hatred sprawled all over our campus attacking all sorts of religions, being pro-satanic and being grossly obscene."

Word of the attack turned into action by nearly 60 students, parents, former students and former parents.

"I was shocked by what happened so I offered to help, started washing things immediately," senior Jack Lynch said.

Bulliard said, "Like the resurrection follows Good Friday, an incredible response from the community."

Police said what happened here is not only being considered vandalism, but also a hate crime and they've received several good, solid leads as to who’s behind it.

"I've been a policeman for 30 years and I can tell you that some of the things they did with the latex paint, that they splashed on some of the buildings, was just pure hate," Covington Police Captain-In-Charge Jack West said.

But the school hopes the actions of its extensive community stands as a message to the vandals and an example to others.

Said Bulliard, “They can overcome it with the help of good, caring, loving people coming together, working for something that's positive."

If you have any information about this crime, contact the Covington Police Department. CrimeStoppers is also offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information in the case. That number is 1-877-903-STOP.
